Board of DirectorsOur TLPP Board of Directors have been appointed through the State Bar of Texas, where several of the board members have served multiple terms.
Tom VeitchChairman of the BoardAppointed April 1996 Thomas H. Veitch is a partner with the law firm of Langley & Banack, Inc. in San Antonio. He has been associated with the industry business for over 40 years, serving in claims adjusting, underwriting, sales agent, and branch manager positions prior to commencing the practice of law in 1973. Mr. Veitch has earned the professional insurance designations of CPCU, CIC and CLU in addition to being selected to Who's Who in American Insurance and Who's Who in American Law, Best Lawyers in America (Insurance Coverage), and Texas Super Lawyer (Insurance Coverage). He is also Board certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Veitch's total experience in the insurance field exceeds 44 years; encompasses experience in claims adjusting, underwriting, sales and field management positions, insurance defense work, agency consultation in mergers, acquisitions and valuations, mediation, expert witness/consulting, and similar insurance law matters.
Jennifer RamseyVice PresidentAppointed April 2007 Jennifer Ramsey is an attorney and is the senior partner of J. Ramsey & Associates, P.C. in Austin, Texas—the firm she founded in 2006. Ms. Ramsey attended the University of Texas, School of Law and began practicing after her licensure in 1991. After ten years of litigation with an Austin boutique, Ms. Ramsey joined a regional firm and broadened her practice over the next five years to include receivership and transactional work as well as litigation. In 2006, she became qualified by the Texas Department of Insurance to serve as a special deputy to the Receiver (Commissioner) for the purpose of rehabilitating and/or liquidating impaired insurers domiciled in Texas. Her assignments currently include two such estates. She also serves as receiver in a variety of non-insurance matters, and she continues to represent individuals and businesses in general business matters as well as in litigation.
Romeo L. RodriguezTreasurerAppointed June 2006 Romeo Rodriguez received a Bachelor of Science degree from Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Brownsville. Romeo is currently the Controller for Mobile Video Tapes, Inc. dba KRGV – TV in Weslaco, Texas and has served in this capacity since 1994. Romeo is the only Board Member of TLPP that is not an attorney. He brings diversity and a fresh perspective to TLPP's Board of Directors.
Dan BoulwareAppointed January 2007 Dan Boulware earned a Juris Doctor form Baylor Law School. Dan began his law career as a partner in the firm of McPherson & Boulware. He served as Johnson County Attorney from 1977 to 1984, and as District Attorney in the 18th Judicial District from 1984 to 1992. He is currently a partner in the law firm of MacLean & Boulware. Dan has specialized in litigation representing both plaintiffs and defendants in a civil trial practice. Dan has received many professional honors and awards over the years. He was the Texas War on Drugs Prosecutor of the Year in 1988, and was named Prosecutor of the Year in 1992 by the Criminal Justice Section of the State Bar of Texas. He is past president of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association, and served as a trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation from 2003 to 2006.
Teri L. DanishAppointed May 2006 Teri L. Danish received her law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1990. Ms. Danish is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law with the State Bar of Texas. Ms. Danish is a Partner with Rodriguez, Colvin, Chaney & Saenz, LLP in Brownsville, Texas where she defends clients in civil litigation, with an emphasis on labor and employment matters at trial and before administrative agencies. Ms. Danish is an active member of the Friendship of Women, Inc. where she has served on the Board of Directors from 2000-2006 and held the positions of Secretary from 2001-2002 and President from 2002-2004. Ms. Danish was appointed to the Board of Directors of Texas Legal Protection Plan in 2006 by the State Bar of Texas.
Catherine Brown FryerAppointed January 2007 Catherine Brown Fryer practices in the areas of employment law, insurance law, and administrative law. She assists clients in all aspects of employment law counseling including issues related to hiring, termination, employment policies and complaints. She also handles matters before administrative agencies and the EEOC as well as in state and federal court. Her administrative practice includes rulemaking, contested case hearings, and general agency-related matters. Ms. Fryer's administrative practice includes both professional licensing and a broad range of insurance-related proceedings.
Richard S. GeigerAppointed June 1986 Richard Geiger is a member of the Insurance Law and Governmental & Legislative Advocacy Groups of the firm of Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons, L.L.P. Mr. Geiger's practice has focused on the representation of insurance companies and insurance trade associations before the legislature, the Commissioner of Insurance, the Texas Department of Insurance, as well as generally representing and advising insurance companies, trade associations and other industry organizations. From 1973 to 1977, Mr. Geiger served in the Texas House of Representatives. During his two terms in the legislature, he served as a delegate to the Texas Constitutional Convention in 1974 and served on the Committees on State Affairs, Transportation, Public Health and Elections. Mr. Geiger serves as a member of the Board of Directors on various professional and civic organizations, including the Adamson Scholarship Foundation, the Dallas Zoological Society, and Home Health Services of Texas. He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He has been named one of "Texas' Leading Insurance Attorneys" by Chambers USA for 2009.
Patricia HayesAppointed April 2007 Patricia V. Hayes began as Vice Chancellor for Governmental Relations and Educational Policy at the Texas State University System Office in September 2006. In this role, Ms. Hayes serves as the primary liaison to the Texas Legislature and other state agencies for the TSUS Board of Regents, the System and its component institutions. Prior to joining TSUS, Ms. Hayes served as the Associate Commissioner for Educator Quality and P-16 Initiatives at the Texas Education Agency and as the director of the P-16 Coordination Office within TEA. Ms. Hayes has served the state in a variety of capacities including, as a Legal Intern in the Office of the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives and as Director of the Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education. Her most recent position in the Legislature was as the Special Assistant for Education to former Lieutenant Governor Bill Ratliff. A licensed attorney, Ms. Hayes earned her bachelor's degree in government from the University of Texas at Austin and her law degree from the George McConnell School of Law at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
Cory Kenworthy CanonAppointed April 2009 Cory Canon joined Lynch, Chappell & Alsup in Midland, Texas in 2008. Her practice is concentrated in the areas of estate planning and probate, guardianships, and litigation support. Ms. Canon is admitted to the State Bar of Texas and the United States Court for the Western District of Texas. She has served as President and Vice President of the Midland County Young Lawyers Association, and she is a member of the Midland Business & Estate Council, Texas Young Lawyers Association, Midland County Bar Association, and Midland Women's Bar Association. Ms. Canon is an active member of the Junior League of Midland and the Young Professionals of Midland. She serves on the Pro Bono Advisory Board for Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, and has volunteered as well for Midland Teen Court, Vision 2020, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Midland Children's Advocacy Center. This year, Ms. Canon was appointed to a three-year term to the Texas Legal Protection Plan Board of Directors. Ms. Canon served as a federal law clerk for three years before joining Lynch Chappell. Ms. Canon graduated from Texas A&M University in 2000, and received her J.D. at the University of Houston Law Center in 2005.
James C. WintonAppointed September 2006 James C. Winton has been involved in the oil and gas and maritime industries for over 30 years. During his career he has represented companies in these industries with a focus on pipeline, ocean, air and truck transportation. Mr. Winton has had extensive litigation experience in those areas, and has appeared in state or federal trial or appellate courts of Arkansas, California, Florida, Louisiana, New York, Ohio and Texas. Mr. Winton was elected to a three-year term on the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors in 2002. In 2005, he was selected Third Year Director of the Year and received a Presidential Citation for his work as chair of the Facilities and Equipment and Policy Manual Subcommittees. He has also served as an officer and member of the Board of Directors of the Southern District of Texas Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and in 2005 was the Chapter President. In 2006, Mr. Winton was appointed by the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas to serve on the Board of Directors for the Texas Legal Protection Plan. In 2007, he served as Secretary of the Lakewood Yacht Club and was elected to a three-year term on its Board of Directors in 2008. Mr. Winton was the State Bar of Texas Board Liaison to the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct Committee in 2002-2003 , has been an appointed member of that committee since 2003 and has served as Co-Vice Chair of the Committee from June 2007 - June 2009. Mr. Winton teaches the general maritime law course at the University of Houston Law Center and is the author of, "Corporate Representative Depositions in Texas—Often Used but Rarely Appreciated," 55 Baylor Law Review 651 (2003), a definitive study of corporate representative depositions in Texas and, in some respects, under the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, as well. A shorter version of the article appeared as "Corporate Representative Depositions in Texas," 28 The Advocate 34 (2004), the State Bar of Texas Litigation Section Report. Mr. Winton, in addition, has been a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States for more than 15 years and a member of the Carriage of Goods by Sea and Limitation of Liability Committees. Mr. Winton is also active in various yacht club races. He has held an Advanced PADI scuba diving certification since 1988 and has been a certified scuba diver since 1967. He served on active duty with the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps from 1978 - 1981 and was a commissioned officer in the JAG Corps from 1975 - 1996, ending as a Lieutenant Commander. |
